Compressors are widely used throughout the Power, Petrochemical and Oil & Gas industries. Large-scale compressor trains are central to the efficient operation of LNG and CCS processes. Compressor trains are typically designed in an iterative fashion using heuristics rather than true optimisation techniques. This webinar describes how model-based economic optimisation can accurately quantify the effects of design and operational choices, and replace the current iterative design practice with a significantly faster procedure that results in more efficient and flexible designs.
PSEs Power & CCS group will describe an approach to rapidly determine the optimal design parameters of a compression train using rigorous model-based optimisation methods. The model accounts for time-varying flowrates and delivery pressures. Optimisation variables can include continuous variables such as inter-stage pressures, as well as integer or discrete variables such as the number of sections. The approach makes it possible to accurately determine trade-offs between capital expenditure and operating costs.
The presentation will also cover applications including air compression for Oxy-fuel and CCGT power plants, and waste heat recovery via Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). In the Oil & Gas industry, compressor train optimisation applies to LNG production and injection fluid development for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR).
The webinar is aimed at process engineers, scientists and technical management from companies operating compressor trains, especially in the Power, Petrochemical and Oil & Gas industries. A recording will be made available to all registered attendees one day after the broadcast.
