Materials Design Paper Receives Prestigious John Schemel Award

A paper presented at the 17th International Symposium on Zirconium in the Nuclear Industry in Hyderabad, India by Dr. Walter Wolf of Materials Design®, recently received the John Schemel award for best paper at the conference.

The paper titled, “Effect of Hydrogen on Dimensional Changes of Zirconium and the Influence of Alloying Elements: First-Principles and Classical Simulations of Point Defects, Dislocation Loops, and Hydrides”, and was authored by a team of computational scientists of Materials Design®Mikael ChristensenWalter WolfClive Freeman, and Erich Wimmer, together with Ronald Adamson, Zircology Plus; Lars Hallstadius, Westinghouse, Fuel Engineering; Paul Cantonwine, GNF; and Erik Mader, Electric Power Research Institute. The paper presents the highlights of the extensive work performed by the interdisciplinary team of authors, and funded in a long-standing relationship by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI).
